Dear Friends,
I do hope that you have had a good summer either at home or away. I have recently returned from our Boys' Brigade and church camp - we really had a great time of fun and fellowship. Our summer has been a bit more hectic than usual with several trips and lots of visitors from around the country.
A couple of weeks ago I went with one of my sons to Athens for a couple of days sightseeing. I found myself reading again Acts 17:
Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, 'Men of Athens, I perceive that In all things you are very religious; for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you'
This linked in my mind to our camp theme of 'communication' and is a challenge to me and to us all that at the heart of our communication should be Jesus. There are many today, as in St. Paul's day, who have a deep spirituality (whether they know it or not), they may not have built an altar to the unknown God but the God who we have come to know wants to reveal himself to them, often through us.
There will be lots of opportunities to do this in the month ahead in all the meetings and events at Cornerstone and especially through our Alpha Course which starts on Thursday 3rd September. But even more important are our activities and conversations 24 hours 7 days a week. When other people see and hear us - to what extent do we bear witness to Jesus Christ? If you are struggling with this then pray that God will strengthen you by His Holy Spirit.
September will also see our Oasis Student Youth Worker, Ollie Barker, starting his placement with us - please welcome and support him. We will also be celebrating Harvest festival, commencing a 'Time to talk' opportunity each week and our youth and children's mid-week groups will be recommencing. There will be lots for us to be involved in, in the month ahead!
With best wishes
Your friend & Minister
Eddie
