Cornerstone: Hythe United Reformed Church PrintE-mail

Dear Friends,

And so another year is beginning to draw to a close and I write this letter just as, what some might call a 'silly season' is about to begin. By that I mean the period between mid November and mid December. A period of time when there are so many things to organize and plan for and never ending lists of things to do. You will see from reading the magazine that there are lots of exciting things happening at Cornerstone through Advent and Christmas (and into the New Year). Some things will happen at the church building, others will be going out into the community as for example with the Puppet group.

In the midst of this it was good at our recent church meeting to discuss future plans and vision for our church. We were encouraged to see how God had been faithful in so many ways as we have now passed the half way point in paying for the building and also covered all the other costs of our church during 2009. Even more so as hearing of the number of people, both adults and young people, who have in the last few weeks and months made a personal commitment to Jesus in Christ. I pray that others will discover the love of God for them in Christ and that we all will be built up in our love and faith for him.

I am soon to spend a few days at Lee Abbey in Devon where I will get together with other Christians to consider the ministry of John the Baptist. When I think of John the Baptist words like wholehearted devotion to God, repentance and proclamation come to mind. I hope as we all move through the period of Advent and into Christmas and the New Year that each of us will discover afresh the presence of God in our lives and in the world around us.

We often sing a song which includes the words:

Come, Lord Jesus, come, Lord Jesus,
Pour out Your Spirit we pray.
Come, Lord Jesus, come, Lord Jesus,
Pour out Your Spirit on us today.

Yours in Christ
Eddie
